The Alfred Mizzi Foundation supports research in loneliness

The Alfred Mizzi Foundation is once again generously supporting research through the University of Malta Research, Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT). Over the years, The Alfred Mizzi Foundation, supported RIDT and research in the areas of stroke, diabetes and digital marketing. This time the Foundation chose to support research in the social field.

The Third Cycle of the Malta Loneliness Study 2025, continues to build on previous studies conducted in 2019 and 2022, which examined the prevalence and correlations of loneliness among Maltese individuals aged 11 years and older. This third cycle is fundamental because it will confirm (or otherwise) trends in loneliness which were established in the first parts of this research.

In recent years, The Alfred Mizzi Foundation chose to focus its ongoing support towards the social aspect of our society. This ongoing support is happening through a number of initiatives generously funded by the Foundation which is the philantropic arm of Alf. Mizzi & Sons Ltd.

Prof Andrew Azzopardi, the lead researcher on this project, was very grateful for the donation and remarked that, “It is through the work of RIDT and the support of private entities like The Alfred Mizzi Foundation that the future of fundamental research can be sustained.”

The donation was presented by the Chairman of The Alfred Mizzi Foundation, Julian Sammut to the CEO of RIDT, Wilfred Kenely.

Julian Sammut said that, “The Alf Mizzi Foundation believes strongly in giving back to our society and this research falls directly within our remit. We look forward to the findings and hope that they will help to create strategies and policies for the good of the people of Malta and Gozo.”

While thanking The Alfred Mizzi Foundation for their generous donation, Wilfred Kenely encouraged other foundations, businesses, corporates, NGOs and individuals to come forward and support research at the University of Malta. “Research can provide tomorrow’s solutions. Our country needs more companies and entities like The Alfred Mizzi Foundation.”
