GO and Foster Clark Join Forces with RIDT to Fund eMESA

RIDT is thrilled to announce a transformative partnership that marks a significant leap forward for speech-language pathology in Malta. Thanks to the generous funding and support from GO and Foster Clark. The mission of this project is to digitise speech assessment for the next generation.

From Hours to Minutes: The Power of eMESA

For many Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), the manual analysis of a child’s speech can be a painstaking process, often taking between 1 to 2 hours of post-session work. The eMESA (Electronic Maltese English Speech Assessment) app is set to change that.

By digitising the scientifically proven and standardised Speech Assessment tool, this novel application will:

  • Reduce analysis time from hours to just a few minutes.
  • Eliminate manual calculation errors, ensuring higher accuracy in diagnosis.
  • Enhance engagement for children through a digital, interactive interface.
  • Support bilingualism, specifically tailored for Maltese and Maltese-English speaking children.

Why This Matters

Approximately 8-9% of children face speech sound difficulties. Without early and accurate intervention, these challenges can lead to frustration, educational barriers, and social isolation.

By providing SLPs with high-tech decision-support software, we aren’t just saving time—we are enhancing the quality of life for children, parents, and educators. Early, objective diagnosis means faster access to the right intervention, paving the way for better academic and vocational futures.

A Community-Wide Impact

This project is more than just an app; it’s a commitment to inclusivity. The eMESA software is designed to be adaptable for other bilingual pairs, potentially benefiting migrant children in Malta as well. Furthermore, to ensure no child is left behind, the app will be provided free of charge to SLPs across the Health Department, Education sector, NGOs, and private clinics.

We extend our deepest gratitude to GO and Foster Clark for their vision and investment in this project. Together, we are ensuring that every child in Malta has the opportunity to be heard and understood.
